Implementing a business-first approach to gender lens investing
You voted for thisIn June of 2019, the Gender-Smart Enterprise Assistance Research Coalition (G-SEARCh) was launched at Women Deliver. G-SEARCh comprises a group of five, like-minded, impact investors committed to investing with a gender lens. The consortium includes AlphaMundi, Acumen, SEAF, Root Capital, and AHL Venture Partners. We support our respective portfolio companies with grant capital to integrate gender considerations across their business model. By creating G-SEARCh, consortium members recognize an opportunity to leverage our respective efforts to identify similar challenges, opportunities, lessons learned and replicable insights that could be shared with the broader investment community. More importantly, G-SEARCh consortium members have created a unique research opportunity to collate and analyze data spanning 15+ SMEs that are incorporating gender-smart interventions with the hope that this data will demonstrate the business case for incorporating gender-smart interventions across early-growth stage SMEs in emerging markets. In early 2020, we selected the William Davidson Institute (WDI) with the University of Michigan as our select research partner.
During this session, we will open up with representatives from WDI to describe their research approach and data collection plan for this initiative. Then we will invite select members of the G-SEARCh consortium present on tested tools and frameworks, best practices and lessons learned for business first approaches on promoting gender inclusion in SMEs in emerging markets. The final part of the session will include breakout sessions facilitated by consortium members to discuss planned deliverables and recommendations for what would be most helpful for the field in planning for the next phase of G-SEARCh.
